Tuesday Talk: My Favorite SALAD Recipes

I've been working hard to eat more veggies lately and I've found that salads are the best way for me to get my veggies in each day.  I love salads for lunch and for dinner.  My husband will eat salads with me for dinner so I've been adding them to the menu.

I've come up with some tips that will help you to eat more salads each week:
1. STOCK YOUR FRIDGE
Go grocery shopping regularly so you always have salad ingredients on hand.  It's easier to eat healthy when you are prepared.

2. VARIETY
Don't make the exact same salad for yourself every day - change it up.  I buy ingredients for several different salads each week and then rotate them.  I do the same thing with dressing - buy a few favorites and rotate between them.  Change up your cheese, toppings, types of lettuce and dressing to keep yourself from getting bored with the salads.

3. GRILL IN BULK
Grill or cook chicken for the whole week and have it ready to use in the fridge.  I've found that if I have to cook chicken each day, I'm less likely to eat a salad.  I've also cooked ground turkey, added seasoning and kept it in the fridge ready to go.

4. PRE-CUT VEGGIES
Pre-cut your vegetables, wash ahead of time or do a few days at a time so you can just grab and go for your daily salads.

5. BUY IN BULK & ON SALE
I buy a lot of my produce at Sams and then I'll pick up whatever is one sale for the week.  Sweet peppers, fruit, nuts or cheese go on sale regularly.

6. RECREATE SALADS YOU LOVE
I've had delicious salads at restaurants around town and I do my best to recreate them at home.  My favorite salad knock offs came from Hard Rock Cafe, Chilis and Newks.

  1. Great tips! I agree that having cooked meat always encourages me to use it in a salad. I love using leftover roasted chicken or taco meat in my lunch salads. Thawed frozen peas are one of my favorite salad veggies - and they're easy to keep on hand. Yum!

  2. Whitney! I am ready for lunch now! That first salad has me drooling. Looks great. We eat a lot of salads in the spring and summer in my home. Love having fresh food at my fingertips. Beautiful post chick! xo Amanda

  3. Those salads look so delicious. I need to take your tip about prepping meat in advance - that would be a game changer for me.

  4. I love salads! When I'm in a salad mood, I like to chop lots of veggies in advance, so it's easy to do a build-your-own salad for lunch. I also love when there is fruit in my salad! So yummy.

  7. Seriously those salads look amazing! You need to share the exact recipes because I never realize what exactly I should buy to go into each salad.

  8. I love the tip about grilling in bulk and cutting up the veggies prior. Thats the part that stands in the way of me and salads - knowing I have to get the knife and cutting board out.
