3 Things

Happy Friday!  Hope you've had a nice week.  It's been a busy, HOT week here.  We had to change up Olive's school picture day outfit from Fall to Summer because it was 95 degrees yesterday.  Maybe the first day of Fall will bring some cooler temps our way...

I thought I'd update you with 3 things for everyone today.  Let's call them current events :)

Whitney:
1. All of our house projects are wrapping up today (fingers crossed).
We had to have a plumber come out to fix and move some things.  His first appointment required a follow up to finish the project.  Got our 2nd new fridge delivered this week because our 1st new fridge was making a funny noise.  And our heating/ac crew finishing up on Monday.  Hoping to get to sit back and enjoy the updates next week.

2. Prepping for the holidays.
I ordered the kid's Halloween costumes this week when a friend alerted me to a 40% off costume sale.  Halloween, Christmas and Valentine pjs were ordered during a big Carter's sale.  I botched Fletcher's fall pants order.  Think he'd mind wearing his joggers all the way up to his arm pits this season??  I am debating returning/exchanging them vs just saving them for next fall and ordering the correct size now.  I also completely forget to use my Old Navy Cash.  Darn it!  I was going to scoop up a jean jacket for myself.  Instead I logged on to shop the DAY AFTER my Cash expired. #bummer

3. Decluttering.
You know I've been talking about decluttering my house and my life for months.  I'm feeling so good about my progress.  My house feels so good now that our cabinets, closets and rooms have breathing room.  No more stuffing closets full of stuff we don't really want.  I've made countless trips to Goodwill, filled tons of trash bags and it feels awesome.  I made it through all of my boxes of teaching supplies, our closets are looking better and I'm really motivated to keep going.  I crossed our playroom off the declutter list this week.  I need to focus on selling things we no longer want.  That takes time to take pictures, post and then correspond with buyers.  Maybe next week I'll get started on that.

Kevin:
1. Vineyard Vines.
Kevin is obsessed with their shirts.  He says they're the softest, nicest shirts ever.  He'd been admiring them for a while.  I surprised him with some for his birthday back in July.  Now he'd like to swap out all of his shirts for VV.  They seem to run sales regularly.  Keep them in mind for any hard to buy for guy in your life.  Vineyard Vines

2. Golfing.
Kevin's been playing in our club's Men's League this Spring/Summer and it's been fun.  He hasn't played golf this regularly since his golf team days in high school.  It's sweet to see him playing a sport he loves so much.  It doesn't hurt that he looks handsome in his golf gear :)  Anyways, his team made it to the playoffs and he played his best round of golf all season!  He was thrilled.  Finals are next week.

3. Fall Baking.
He has a long list of thing he's wanting me to bake - apple pie, cinnamon rolls, apple crisp, brownies, monster cookies and learn how to make caramel corn.

Olive:
1. Olive LOVES kindergarten.
I figured she'd enjoy school, but I had no idea how much.  She can't wait to go (via the bus) every day.  She comes home with a ton of new things she's learned every day.  She just finished up swimming lessons with her class.  I was nervous about this because they bus the kids to the pool, put them in small groups and swim.  The kids have to change themselves in and out of swim gear.  It all went better than I could have imagined.  Olive loves show and tell, all her special classes for art, music, etc. and is working hard to make friends.  She reports on all the happenings in her classroom - who isn't doing their homework, who's being a bully, who's being sweet and who has really great art skills.  It's pretty entertaining.

2. She's dying to read.
Kindergarten is serious business.  They have a list of sight words, phonics practice, color words and vocabulary every week.  She can't wait to sit down and be able to read a book on her own.  I am really amazing at how much she has learned in about 6 weeks of school.  It's fun to see her starting to notice the print around her.  She'll point out words she knows when I'm reading to her.

3. President of the horse fan club.
Olive is mesmerized by horses.  She plays with them all day long and is so interested in them.  Unicorns are lumped into that same category.  She could read, eat, sleep these creatures all day long.

Fletcher:
1. He is talking a ton.
Not just new words - he's moved onto new phrases and sentences.  His favorite things to say is "I've never tried this before" or "I've never done this before" along with things like "I love you whole munches" or "Mama you be my BBF?"  He'll also say "I like use shoes or I like use hair" instead of your.  He's also singing... baby shark, songs from Bible School and his own rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.

2. He's a foodie.  Loves all food.  All the time.
Grilled cheese is his fave.  Cheeseburgers are a close second.  "PPJ" otherwise known as a PBJ, pizza, cucumbers, fruit pouches, ice cream, popsicles, all salty snacks/chips, peeled peaches or apples, string cheese, cookies, candy, etc.  I can't even wrap my head around feeding a teenage Fletcher with the amount of food he's consuming now.

3. Fletcher loves learning.
He gets so into his science classes, story time, board books and shows.  He has memorized many board books and walks around reciting them.  Construction books or anything with cars or emergency vehicles are his current favorites.

Have a great weekend!!

We are looking forward to watching some football, farmer's market and family dedication day at church.

There's Nothing Better Than...

I've been thinking lately about the things that make my day!

Little things that all add up to smiles and feel good moments.

In my opinion, there's nothing better than...

1. My kids sleeping in on Saturday morning
2. Chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven
3. Sunglasses that fit your big head
4. Finding exactly what you're looking for at TJ Maxx
5. Clean sheets preferably floral sheets
6. A really great, dependable babysitter that your kids love
7. Beautiful handwriting
8. A garden full of flowers
9. An organized home
10. Chatting with friends
11. Watching your kids genuinely enjoy being together
12. Crossing everything off your to do list
13. Catching up on your shows after the kids go to bed
14. Living somewhere long enough to bump into friends when you're out and about
15. Compliments from your husband
16. Establishing family traditions with your kids
17. Having someone else wash and style your hair
18. When your kids say you're the best at something.  I'm currently the best sandwich maker, foot rubber, story reader and cookie baker.

How would you finish that statement??  There's nothing better than...

DVR Run Down

I am so thankful for our DVR.  It makes it possible to watch all of my favorite things after everyone goes to bed at night.  I can't imagine trying to time our plans around watching my shows live.  I know we all did it for years, but man is it nice to just set things to record.

I thought I'd share my DVR run down with you today.  I look forward to watching in the evenings a few nights a week.  It's great to fast forward through commercials, delete episodes that don't look particularly interesting and watch when I get a chance.

Whitney's DVR Run Down:

Grey's Anatomy:
I didn't start watching this when it first came out, but thanks to it being replayed regularly I got caught up quickly.  Now I look forward to watching it each week.  I love all the drama and my husband loves hearing a weekly update of the show.  He isn't interested in watching it though :)

Fixer Upper:
Chip and Joanna Gaines have become household names and their show is wildly popular.  I love watching the new episodes and seeing how they make over spaces.  I wish I had a green thumb like Jo and I love how they mix old and new things together when they decorate.  They do things I didn't even know were possible and I love watching them work together.

Counting On:
I know the Duggars are kind of controversial these days, but I still love seeing what their kids are up to.  It's fun to see what they are getting involved in as adults and all of their different interests.  I think Ginger's wedding might be the prettiest one yet and am excited to watch the wedding episode.

The Pioneer Woman:
I enjoy her recipes and watching her cook.  Olive loves watching with me because they're always showing farm animals and life on the ranch.  I know she mispronounces spices, says the same adjectives over and over, but I still enjoy seeing what she's up to in the kitchen.

The Voice:
I really love watching The Voice and love watching the coaches interact.  It'll be fun to see the dynamic change with Gwen being back this season.  Blake is my favorite coach and I'm looking forward to Luke Bryan helping him out.  I think they're both funny and the coaches are just as interesting as the singers to me.  I've marked my calendar for the new season to start next week.

A Chef's Life:
I really like watching this PBS cooking show about restaurant owners trying to make a name for themselves and their restaurant.  They do everything local and work hard to include their family in the process.  They also cook with interesting ingredients, go out to visit their local farmers and I end up learning about cooking and facts about the produce in the process.

Modern Family:
We like to watch this together in the evenings.  The family dynamics, the ongoing story lines and then embarrassing things keep us laughing.  I think the show is super relatable, easy to watch and gets funnier every year.

The Goldbergs:
If you grew up in the 80s or around then you'll likely think this show is hilarious.  It's funny to see them bring things back that we used to love and the fashion is great.  Kevin and I both like watching this one.  I can't believe every episode is based on a vintage video clip from a real life family.

What shows do you enjoy watching?
Do you DVR them?

Queso & Questions

I realized over the weekend that I never shared my recipe for
Loaded Queso with you!  Whoops!  It's too good to forget about.

QUESO:
It was so easy to throw together and we loved it.
You'll just need a crock pot, a skillet
 and this list of yummy ingredients to make it happen:

1 jar of your favorite salsa
1 jar of your favorite nacho cheese
1 can black beans
1 can regular rotel
1/2 c frozen corn
1 lb seasoned ground beef (I used Ortega taco seasoning)
1/2 yellow pepper finely chopped
1/2 red pepper finely chopped
1/4 purple onion finely chopped
1/4 c chopped jalapenos

Top with sour cream, guac and chips to dip

Cook the ground beef, drain and add seasoning.  Drain the black beans.  Dump all of the ingredients into our crockpot and stir until well combined.  Let it all warm up and then serve with chips.  I served ours in little bowls.

It was perfect for our Super Bowl dinner and we will definitely enjoy it for game days since it's such a yummy, filling appetizer.

QUESTIONS:

I also have a bunch of RANDOM QUESTIONS I've been trying to answer lately.  I figured you all would be able to help me and would know the answer to lots of them.

1. We are flying with the kids in March and I'd love to hear all of your tips for flying with an 11 month old and almost 4 year old.  Olive has flown before, but is too young to remember it.  I'm really wondering about strollers, car seats, what to check, what to rent, what to leave at home, carry ons, in flight entertainment and anything else related to flying with kids.

2. We are in the market for a new car seat for Olive.  She'll be 4 in May.  What type of car seat do you have for your big kids?  We're looking for something super safe that won't break the bank.

3. All finger nail polish seems to be peeling off my nails lately.  Clear coats, colorful polish, etc.  It all just peels right off after a day or two.  What can I do to stop this from happening?

4. What are the best overnight diapers you've used?  A certain someone tends to have leaky diapers overnight and I've tried everything.  We've sized up, tried a few different ones and haven't quite figured it out.  We love Pampers Swaddlers diapers for the day time.

5.  I'm wanting to get Olive a puddle jumper to wear in the pool this summer.  What is the best one or one that you've loved with your kids?  It seems like there are so many options.

6. I'd love to buy some beautiful succulents, but don't want to pay a lot for them.  Where is the best place to find affordable plants??

7. We are going to be visiting Chattanooga, TN in a few weeks and we have never been there before.  It sounds like a really family friendly place, but I'd love some recommendations for food, activities and kid fun while we are there.

8. Are the Living Proof hair products worth the investment?  Do they live up to the hype?  It seems like everyone is talking about how amazing they are and using them right now.

THANKS a million for your help with all of my questions
 and I hope you get a chance to try out my Loaded Queso recipe!!

Voting & Winning

Whether you're voting or boating today, I hope you have a wonderful Election Day!  Be sure to get out and VOTE!!  Your vote counts, it's important and you should make it a priority.  Did anyone else early vote this year?  I kept having dreams that I didn't get to vote because the lines were too long on Election Day so I made sure to early vote.

My kids and I headed to an early voting location last Friday to vote together.  I'd been talking about the whole voting process, who we were voting for and we've been watching some of the election coverage as a family.  Remember when Olive thought she spotted Donald Trump at the hospital??  She called out to a man in a suit with blonde hair and was very perplexed that he did not respond to her greeting.

Anyways, we headed to the polls together.  We talked about what a big responsibility it was and how we were really excited to be voting.  We got signed in and headed to the voting machine.  Olive kept asking where the BOATS were and why we hadn't seen any BOATS.  Apparently VOTING and BOATING sound similar.  Then I kept shushing her while I was trying to vote and she yelled back at me QUIT SHHHHHHHHHING ME!  Thankfully, I was almost done.  As we were heading to turn in our ballot.  She said, "I don't see Donald Trump anywhere!!"  I guess she was expecting for the presidential candidate to just be hanging out at our polling location.  I should have made that more clear.  Whoops!  We left with stickers, I voted and we had a great time together.  I think it's important to bring your kids along on these little learning field trips when you can.

The last time I voted for a president was when I was pregnant with Olive in Salt Lake City so it was fun to be voting with her again as a very talkative three year old.  We also had Fletcher with us so lots has changed for our family in the last four years :)
4 states, 4 jobs, 4 moves, 2 kids, 5 houses... wowza!!

We'll be excitedly watching the election results come in
and are hoping to see that our candidate was a huge winner tonight!!

Speaking of WINNING, I'm going to answer the prompt
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY??

We only buy lottery tickets when the jackpots get crazy high like 48 million so our chances are pretty slim to every win.  It doesn't stop us from having fun buying a few tickets.  Do you ever buy lottery tickets?

If we won a mega lottery jackpot, we'd do the following 5 FUN things after doing all the responsible putting money in college funds, paying off cars, saving, investing, etc:

1. WILD WEST.
We'd buy a cabin and property in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and go there as much as possible.  My husband has big dreams of renting a nice RV and heading out west with the kids.  We'd revisit our old stomping grounds around Utah, visit National Parks and enjoy it all from a cushy RV (think glamping!)

2. HOUSE.
We are loving our new house so I'd do all of the upgrades around our house that are on our current wish list... a fence, bathroom updates, landscaping, new light fixtures, bonus room makeover, new furniture, kitchen makeover, etc.

3. GIVE.
I would love to go around writing big checks for things I believe in.  Wouldn't it be fun to give your waitress a $1,000 tip, donate money to schools, help your church, donate money to your college, help your family members, pay off houses for people you love, buy new cars to surprise people, etc.  This would definitely be the most fun part about winning a huge sum of money!!

4. CRUISE.
Plan a family Disney cruise and invite our whole family to come along!  Then follow up the family cruise with an adults only relaxing cruise because vacationing with kids is fun, but not relaxing.

5. EMERALD.
I've always wanted an emerald right hand ring.  I love the look of a vintage ring - something big and fun and real.  I like an emerald + diamonds so I'd definitely pick out a beauty of a right hand ring for myself.  It doesn't hurt that Olive's birth stone is an emerald so I could pass it down to her one day.

Me Too

Did you happen to see Meghan Trainor on Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago?

She looked lovely as ever, gave a great performance
and then took a fall as she was wrapping up her performance.

It was awkward, looked slightly painful and then she gracefully laughed it off.  Jimmy was funny, laid on the floor with her and then helped her up.  I felt bad for her, but she seemed mostly unphased by it.  I'm sure that kind of stuff happens all the time - right?

I get embarrassed easily.  Hate to mess up publicly and prefer to look like I have my stuff together all the time.  I overthink things, over plan things and over do things all in the name of getting it right the first time.  I take calculated risks when the odds are in my favor and am hard on myself when I make a mistake.  My type A personality is a lot to deal with some days... just ask my husband :)  It's not very realistic to think that I'm always going to have it together and I really should take a chill pill in a lot of areas.  I'm working on it and am making progress.

So when I saw Meghan Trainor bite it on stage my heart sank for her.
I wished it didn't happen and knew it would be replayed over and over again.
Poor Meghan.

A few days later I saw this article on msn

It address a photo shop faux pas and her performance on Jimmy Fallon.
Click over and read what she had to say -
she talks about photo shop, spanx and her fall.

I was shocked to hear that she had the opportunity to redo the performance and edit out her fall.  She opted NOT to edit out her embarrassing moment and instead just laugh at herself.  I was surprised and loved her reasoning behind it.  I don't know a ton about Ms. Trainor other than that she has catchy songs, pretty makeup and a sassy personality.  I like her a little more now that I've seen her confidence come through and the fact that she's is so real.  We all make mistakes and fall down and she's fine with the world knowing about it.

I love that!  Relax and be real :)

The Highlights

It's been a bit of a wild week at our house.

We had family in town visiting, stopped by our new house to find a water pipe had burst and flooded the laundry room, had to deal with the clean up/warranty details, picked out a sofa and I had several visits to see my doctor and get monitored since I'm wrapping up my 37th week of pregnancy.  We're looking forward to a fun Easter weekend filled with a bunny brunch, egg hunts, pretty dresses and sunshine.  Our plan is to stay close to home and going to enjoy our last Easter as a family of three.  I'm pretty excited for the Easter fun ahead and watching ND and IU continue on in the NCAA tournament.  I still have 9 teams in the sweet 16 so I'm hoping to see some good games.  My husband and I are in first place with a bracket we did together so I'm hopeful we'll finish strong.  How are your teams doing??

The best parts of our week were:

// 1 //
Our New House
 We got to spend some time hanging out at our house this week.  Repairmen tend to run on their own timelines so two hours turned into 4.5 hours.  Luckily we had toys, picnic lunch supplies and clorox wipes so we made the best of our time at the house and got a little cleaning done.  This is a picture of Olive hanging out in our family room.  She'd picked herself a bouquet of "bootiful flowers" (dandelions), enjoyed twirling around this big empty room and was thrilled to play in our new space.  This area of the house SOLD us on the house!  There are HUGE windows throughout the whole room, original floors, a pretty fireplace and I can't wait to decorate this space.

// 2 //
Easter: Toddler Edition
Olive's Easter basket is done and I can't wait for her to find it Sunday morning!  I talked about all the details for what I put in her basket earlier in the week.  I included educational, practical and fun things to come up with a great basket for her.  I also stuffed 48 Easter eggs for Olive to hunt on Sunday.  I left some empty and then varied the candy & Annie's bunnies in the rest.  We're planning to dye eggs, make Easter cupcakes, fix an Easter meal and do an Easter art project this weekend.

// 3 //
CHUNKY MONKEY BARS
These have been all the rage at my house lately.  I made them for a treat two weeks in a row and they never last long.  Several of my friends have tried them and rave about them, too.  They are definitely my new favorite recipe to make with ripe bananas.  Go here to find my recipe

// 4 //
TACO DIP
I made this delicious taco dip for some NCAA tournament watching this week and it was so yummy!  It's hardly even a recipe because you just grab all of your favorite mexican food items and layer it in a casserole dish.  Super easy and super tasty!
My dip had the following layers:
refried beans
ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning
black olives
corn
black beans
1/2 a red, yellow and orange pepper diced
jalapenos
spoonfuls of cream cheese
salsa
shredded sharp cheddar
top with green onions after it's baked at 375 for 15 minutes
serve with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream & your favorite tortilla chips

// 5 //
New Summer Bag
I ordered this bag from Marley Lilly and loved how it turned out!  I don't own anything like it and think it's going to be perfect for heading to the pool & beach this summer.

Be sure and check out my favorite posts from this week:

I hope you have a really great Easter weekend filled with chocolates, yummy food
and time with family & friends!!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!  I hope you had a nice week.  I hated saying goodbye to Peyton Manning's playing days in the NFL and definitely shed a few tears during his retirement press conference.  He's my favorite and I'm excited to see what he does next.  We enjoyed some low key rainy days, splashed in puddles, went to the park with friends, crossed some things off of our baby to do list and tried to put my feet up as much as possible now that I'm in my 35th week of pregnancy.

  The best parts of my week:

// 1 //
Tow Yard Brewery
Last weekend Kevin surprised me with a little adventure to Indianapolis.  We had a groupon and so he said that we'd head out right after Olive work up from her nap.  It was a quick one hour trip and we had a blast!  The food was amazing and the atmosphere was so fun!  The brewery is right across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium and they had special seating for families that was a little quieter than the rest of the brewery.  Kevin said their craft beer was delicious and I'd say their pretzel bites and burgers were good enough that I'm dying to go back again ASAP.

// 2 //
St. Patrick's Day DIY Cards
We tried a new technique - stamping - to make our St. Patrick's Day cards for friends and family this year.  We had a great time and Olive caught on quickly.  She stamped the cards & envelopes and then helped me lick them closed.  It's our tradition to make St. Pat's Day cards so it was fun try something a little new.

// 3 //
 Kate Spade Diaper Bag
I purchased my first Kate Spade diaper bag back in 2013 for Olive and I used it until the straps fell off.  It was so durable and I carried that thing daily for almost 3 years before saying goodbye to it.  So it was a no brainer where I was going to be shopping for a diaper bag this time around.  I wanted to pick something that wasn't too girlie, but that I still loved and the STRIPES were the winner for me.  The bag is even prettier in person and it's currently packed with tiny baby boy things ready to head to the hospital sometime in the coming weeks.

// 4 //
Oh BOY!
I bought Fletcher his first bow tie this week!  I couldn't resist this cute plaid option from Target and I picked up some F monogrammed note cards to use as baby thank you note cards.  I also cut tags off of my tiniest baby things and did my first load of baby boy laundry.  It was adorable and definitely helped me to feel a little more ready for his arrival.

// 5 //
 Winner!
I've been on a contest winning streak lately!  I won a book, a monogrammed bag and most recently this adorable My First Tervis sippy cup for Olive.  It came from Weeping Willow Monograms on etsy and her shop has so many cute cup and personalized options for adults and kids.  I love my Tervis tumbler so I hope Olive does, too.  This one is going in her Easter basket!

Friday Five

We had a fun week at our house.  Lots of sunshine, play dates, friends, college basketball and chocolate covered pretzels.  Life with a toddler is always an adventure, but we had a really fun/easy/sweet week with Olive.  She was so cute and a good time was had by all.  Not all weeks are that way so it's worth noting toddlers can be oh so FUN!

I'm hosting a BIG giveaway this week so scroll down to the bottom of this post
to enter the $75 PinkBlush giveaway ASAP!!

The BEST parts of our week were:

// 1 //
College Basketball
We were given basketball tickets so we took Olive to her first college game on Sunday.  We had a great time and were able to stay the whole time.  She loved watching the band, the cheerleaders, the mascot and the action on the court.  She's a girl after my own heart and scarfed down a huge soft pretzel.  We've really enjoyed all the perks of living in a college town this year.

// 2 //
Spring Lips
I ran into CVS yesterday to pick up a few things and everything I wanted was BOGO half off.  I picked up two new lipsticks for Spring and I love both colors.  They're Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink Velvet 423 (right) and Cherries in the Snow 440 (left).  There were so many pretty colors that I had a hard time just picking two.  I love the feel of this product and can't wait to start using them.

// 3 //
Sprinkle
I love getting edible party favors when I go to events so I made 8 different kinds of chocolate covered pretzels for my sprinkle this weekend.  I had a blast making them and coming up with different topping combinations.  I'm hoping my friends and family will be excited to take home a bag of them on Saturday.  Olive was thrilled with them and said, "Mama, deeze cookies sure are yummy!"
Here's a sneak peek at the cute sprinkle invitations:

// 4 //
Norman
We've got the cutest squirrels on the planet living in our backyard.  They're chubby, friendly and will climb the patio door screen to get our attention if their food is running low.  This is Norman and he's actually much thinner than he was a few months ago.  He's clearly hungry and so politely waiting for food.  Don't worry we quickly refilled his food supply.  The whole family (cats included) enjoy squirrel watching on our patio :)

// 5 //
33 Weeks
I had a doctor's visit yesterday to check on baby Fletcher and myself.  I'm wrapping up my 33rd week so I loved hearing updates and talking about a birth game plan with my doctor.  They've estimated his weight is already SIX pounds and I've still got several weeks to go.  My blood pressure was good so we're both just going to keep plugging along.  We'll see how it all plays out, but I'm preparing for a healthy big baby boy.  I was induced at 39 weeks with Olive so we'll see how things go with our little man.  I did a double take at my own reflection this week when we were out doing some shopping.  Baby is definitely growing :)
