Savings Catcher

Have you heard of the Savings Catcher app for Wal-Mart?

It seems like Wal-Mart is promoting it like crazy.

It's a program that compares your local grocery store prices and credits your account if a lower price is found for an item elsewhere.  You don't have to do any of the leg work.  They do all of the comparing, price checking and email you in about three days to let you know if you saved anything.

It gets added to your account and then you can cash out when you hit a certain amount.
I set up an on-line account with Savings Catcher prior to downloading the app and find myself using both.  The app seems to be a bit unreliable and it takes several times for you to try to scan the receipt bar code for it to actually go through.

So far I've been a bit underwhelmed because I expected to save more.  We grocery shop there and also do our household shopping there.  I figured we'd save more than we have.  I've used the app 5 times and have saved a whopping $2.02.  Several receipts have come back saying there are no lower prices out there.  We buy Great Value brand things when we can and it seems like the biggest discounts are coming from name brand items.  I will say that my Mom also uses the app and has already saved $8.  I need to do a little more research to see how I could save more, but for now I'll keep buying what I normally buy and save a little money.

I'll continue to use the program because it's free, but I'm going to keep in mind that I won't become rich overnight with it.

Have you used Savings Catcher yet?
What did you think??

  1. I buy lots of Great Value and also lots of "ingredient" type items. I haven't gotten much money back either. But a coworker who buys lots of name brand and processed stuff, she gets like $3-5 back each time. I would rather not eat the way she does...so I'll take my few cents each time and be happy.

  2. I've never heard of this before but it sounds like a great idea! If only you got a bit more money back but I guess any savings is better than no savings, right?!
