Road Tripping with Kids

My good friends planned a road trip with their 2 little girls.
They were busy making travel arrangements and packing
so I put together a road trip bag of goodies for the family.

Here's what you'll need to make some road trip activities of your own:
FYI: The Dollar Tree is an excellent place to find items for this project.
 1. Stickers and paper -
lots of paper and 2 sheets of each type of sticker
2 . Beads and string to make a necklace.
3. +, - and memory cards for the 2nd grader
4. ABCs, colors, and rhyming cards for the preschooler
*I took the cards out of their little boxes and put them into baggies
so they would be easy for the girls to open and keep track of.
5. Deck of cards to play war and other math games
I wrote out directions to go with these.
6. Coloring books for each child
7. Highlights magazines for each child
 8. Activity books that were age appropriate
9. Easy reader books
10. Wipe off boards for crayons + kleenexes for erasers
+ twistable crayons with exactly the same colors in each bag
 11. Ring pops
12. *All non-melty candy items
Sweet tarts, Sprees, gummies, fruits snacks, beef jerky & mints
13. Plastic bugs to count, sort and categorize
 14. Pretzels, Scooby snacks
15. Shades for the trip
16. Happy Birthday booklets to color in
since one of the little girls has a birthday next week

All of the loot laid out and ready to be packaged.
Paper lunch sacks, neon index cards & markers
 Start bagging the items.
Make a label for each bag and staple it on.
I stapled the bags closed to add to the suspense.
I wrote a clue for the contents of each bag on the index cards
#6 Accessorize yourself = sunglasses
#17 We think you are SWEET = Sweet tarts
I tried to spread out the treats and activities by numbering the bags
but of course they could open them in any order they wanted.
I found a reusable bag to put all of the bags of fun into to make it portable
and easy to access in a car full of luggage.

I worked really hard to do equal amounts, similar colors and activities
to ensure that there wouldn't be ay more fighting than usual :)

The girls LOVED the activities
and their parents said they loved having things to do in the car
to help the time pass by quickly.

If you are going on a road trip with your kiddos this summer,
you should make them some road trip activity bags!
