2023 Garden Tour

My flowers pots are all planted and filled for the season and I'm so pleased with how they all turned out.  I have collected pots for years and I'm up to 20 pots that surround my house.  I try to stick with black or terracotta pots and am always on the hunt for unique end of the season flower pot treasures like my red basket pots I grabbed last year on clearance.  I'd love to add some giant pots or tall pots here and there so I'm keeping my eye out for end of the Summer clearance this year.

Let me know if you have any questions.  My yard is full sun so everything you see is full sun friendly.  I planted Lantana everywhere because it will bloom now through Fall and it loves the sun.  You'll see sweet potato vine (the neon green vine) and a few different colors of Verbena.

Let's get gardening!

Front yard:

I learned last year that my house is far too sunny for Boston ferns.   opted for Kimberly Queen ferns this year.  They're so pretty and can handle the sun.  I put them at our front door and back door.

Welcome to our house!  Where I've learned to really like my red door.  Stay tuned for a fairy garden tour...

Drive way pots.  I did a mix of 6 different flowers of different heights and colors in the tall pots and a mix of 4 different flowers in the basket pots below.  They look so pretty!  And they will look even prettier as they grow and fill in all Summer long.

Try to get a good variety of 3 things - thrillers (tall plants), spillers (viney plants) and fillers (good solid flowers with color for the middle)

Our 1st vegetable garden.  A friend came to help us till up the soil and we've had a lot of fun planning our garden with the kids.  We started a garden journal to see what works and what struggles in our yard.  We've got everything from okra to watermelon.  It's going to be a fun learning adventure over here.  We planted a few seeds and mostly good hearty plants to give us a head start.  Wish us luck and pray that the bunnies and Leo go easy on the garden.

Back patio:

The back door has this combo on both sides.

Herbs and flowers.

My watering buddy.

Then our fire pit area is coming along nicely.  The grass is all growing back and we're learning how to style it for Summer.  We have 5 flower pots out there and I'd love to add some big ones or some tall ones to each side next year.

I did the same flowers on each side.  A mix of our favorite sun loving plants.

We planted 16 trees around our property last year and I'm happy to report that they're all thriving.  They have all grown a lot.  Our tree line of Green Giants have grown at least a foot.  Then we planted 4 different kinds of maples on the other half of the yard.  They are so pretty!  We had to trim up our japanese maple after some extra frigid temps around Christmas time, but we are happy with how they are all doing.

How is your garden coming along this year?

Do you plant pots?  Vegetables?  Herbs?  I want to hear all about it!

  1. You have such a green thumb and lovely pots. I do the thriller/filler/spiller formula aLeo and did pots for our home, our son’s family, and daughter’s family right before Mother’s Day. Even though we are in Texas I do use many of the same plants! Have you tried hibiscus pots in your sun filled yard?

  2. Your pots look so good! I love this time of year when we finally get to enjoy blooms! When I saw your trees that look about kid height, and had already grown a foot, I thought, "take a picture of the kids standing by the trees!" It would be so fun to track how both the trees and the kids grow! We've had new trees several times and we LOVE remembering things like, "remember when it was shorter than that window? And now..."

  3. Everything looks just gorgeous and ready for summer!! I would love your tips on how much/often to water pots. I struggle to find the balance!

We have lots of bunnies interested in our garden...grrr. We do have a fence and that helps but they do sometimes dig. I've sprinkled crushed red peppers and garlic powder around and that actually helps a bit but you do have to reapply.

We recently put dirt and borders around our mailbox and our shed. Any recommendations for flowers for those areas? I love black-eyed susans and thoughts those would be cheerful (and perennial!) for either area but I'm also wondering if I should get flowers lower to the ground like wave petunias or phlox. Open to ideas!
