Southern Charm

I am constantly in awe of how friendly and kind people are in the South.

They make eye contact, want to talk to you when you are shopping and are eager to lend a helping hand with a smile.  They say God Bless You and really mean it.  Your neighbors are eager to say hello and people just seem so friendly.  Olive is getting to the age where she waves hello, tries to interact with people and everyone tries to talk to her.  Going shopping with her is quite the experience - usually good :)

Case in point:
We were leaving Target yesterday and I unloaded my cart, got Olive out of the cart and was returning my cart to the stall.  A woman saw me and kindly reminded me not to forget my water bottles on the bottom of the cart.  I thanked her and said I rarely put things on the bottom of the cart for this very reason.  I turned my cart around and headed back to my car.  She saw that my hands were full and she offered to put the water bottles in my car for me.  I accepted because I did have my hands full.  She was heading in the store so she said she'd be happy return my cart for me.

I just smiled, thanked her several times and wished her a great day.

It sure is nice to live in such friendly area.
I've said it before, but I'm not used to strangers being so friendly.  I am coming around and taking a note from my Southern neighbors about how to be sweeter.

  1. You are so right about the south! It is one of the perks for sure. This morning I heard on the radio that Mississippi is best known for its residents getting the most sleep at night but are worst known for not living as long. It probably is because of that yummy Mississippi food. Arkansas is best known for having more dog owners than any other state and worst known for having advanced degrees. Thought I would share that info with you today since your post was about the south. Have a great weekend!

  3. That is so nice! It always makes my day when people are nice. There are a lot of selfish people who never offer to help.

  5. I love living in the South! I don't ever go out anywhere that someone doesn't smile or offer me a hand. It truly is a blessing.

  6. Love it! The ladies that shop in the store where I work are the most Southern occupants of our town. We have such lovely conversations, usually about hair and nail polish. :)

  7. I'm not sure if Oklahoma is considered "southern" or "midwestern", but people are like that here, too. Sounds like you live in a lovely area. XOXO

  8. Love that! I don't know if midwestern-ers are as friendly as Southerners, but we totally noticed a HUGE difference from living in Chicago to Michigan. Everyone is so much more open and outgoing here!
