Ready for Random??

 Greetings from Oliver.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a random post
so here are my rambles, thoughts
and nagging questions in list form {obviously}.

//1//  I am on the hunt for cute updo/pulled back options since my hair is growing out.  I would also like to learn to braid my own hair since it’s highly unlikely that Olive is just going to wake up one day and know how to fancy braid my hair.  Do you have any pictures, you tube links or video links that could help me in this department?

//2// We are in the midst of cleaning out all drawers and closets in our master bedroom.  It isn’t that hard to get rid of things unless you are talking about the precious PLASTIC drawers my husband has had since college.  He keeps trying to convince me that they work just fine in our room and that they aren’t that hideous.  I’m hoping to convince him that they would hold my gift wrapping supplies perfectly and move that ugly thing into a closet.

//3// I have been working hard to find a primary care doctor in Mississippi.  I would love a lady doctor near my house, but it seems as though all options are booked six weeks out, don’t take my insurance or refuse to answer their phone.  I really just need a current prescription for my inhaler and wish that one would just magically be sent to be filled at CVS for me.

//4// It seems as though Olive is coloring on every surface possible.  We try to keep the pens and markers out of her reach or well supervised, but she never misses a beat.  She found a ballpoint pen in my diaper bag that had accidentally fallen on the floor and she decided to “personalize” her baby gate.  She drew all over the whole darn thing.  I was mad at myself for not investigating her too quiet self and mad that I spent nearly an hour scrubbing it.  I tried my beloved Oxyclean, rubbing alcohol, hair spray and lots of elbow grease and there’s still very visible pen.  Do you have any miracle tips for removing pen?

//5// I just volunteered to bring cookies {again}.  When I volunteer to bring food somewhere I 99% of the time bring dessert.  I’m never the person to bring drinks or plates.  I will sometimes sign up for a side dish, but you can count on me to show up with desserts most of the time.  They will always be homemade and I think I’d rather die than show up with a store bought dessert.  Well, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but you get the point.

//6// The one thing that our house is missing is a coat closet.   Maybe that’s a Southern thing or maybe that’s just a quirk to our house.  I’m working on finding a solution that’s better than our little shoe shelf/coat rack we are making due with right now.  I’m know it’s going to be warm soon, but I’d really like to get this remedied soon.

//7// I got a sewing machine for Christmas 2014 and it’s still perfectly wrapped IN THE BOX.  I honestly have no idea where to start or what I need to buy to get started.  What do I need to buy to get it up and running??  Any great on-line resources or videos to recommend??  People claim it’s not that hard, but it is intimidating.

//8// I’m in the market for a wing back chair or two and don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars per chair.  I am hoping to buy cheap and then maybe save up to get them recovered in a fabric I love.  I’ve looked on Craig’s List and the selection is GRIM – think hotel chairs, stained chairs from Grandma’s house or antique chairs that people think are close to priceless.  Any suggestions for where I can find great chairs?

//9// I’m am hoping to paint our coffee table this Spring and would love any advice, suggestions, favorite products and tips about using chalk paint.  I hear it’s pretty simple, but I have never painted furniture before so any and ALL tips would be appreciated.

//10// Olive’s stroller has been a good one for nearly two years.  Her infant car seat clipped into it and we have used it like crazy.  It’s survived flights, car trips and lots of miles trekking around so many states.  We’ve just recently started having trouble with one of the front wheels locking up a bit making it difficult to maneuver.  Do you have any suggestions for a stroller for a 2 year old that would be: comfy, have a good shade cover, durable and not $500?  Please and thank you.

//11// I bought a FitBit in February and I love it.  I am planning to do a full review at the end of the month since I will be a pro at using it after several weeks.  So far I love it :)

//12// I have been hearing a lot about podcasts lately and I don't really know much about them.  Do you pay to subscribe, pay one time or are they free?  Do you stream them or do you download each one?  Please explain this whole podcast phenomenon to me.

//13// Everyone at my house is working on eating better... even the cats.  I bought them the Weight Management variety of Science Diet cat food and have slowly been mixing it into their Friskies.  Our older, bigger cat Oliver could stand to lose (a couple hundred pounds #tommyboy) and Topher is just fine.  I figured it would be good for both of them to eat better food and to lose a lot/little weight.  They seem to be on to my trick especially the ever hungry Oliver.

//14// My husband is anxious to start the 3rd season of Prison Break, but I'm a tad skeptical about watching it after reading the synopsis of life in the Panama Prison system.  I really hate watching fighting - how bad is it??  Do they show all kinds of gross stuff??  I'm guessing so and told Kevin he's probably on his own with this one until they (hopefully) tone things down in season 4.

//15// We got God Bless My Boo Boo By Hannah C. Hall in the mail this week.  My daughter has just started having boo boos and wanting attention for them.  She'll want us to kiss her hand or kiss her boo boo to make her feel better.  This board book is darling.  It shows animal parents comforting their children and reassuring them.  It's perfect for little ones and is really engaging.  The book addresses several different types of boo boos, there a large variety of animals and the illustrations are really sweet.  I think all little ones would enjoy reading this book about boo boos.
*I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review of it.

Do you have anything random to tell me today??
Thanks for all your help to my super important questions :)

  1. I also HATE seeing fighting of any kind. I've been interested in a Fitbit so I would love to hear what you have to say about it. My birthday is coming up and I thought about asking for one if it's worth it.

  2. 4. Did you try the magic eraser?

    10. We registered for this stroller and it might be good for a toddler- http://m.target.com/p/chicco-echo-stroller/-/A-14295448

    1. We have good luck with magic erasers on plastic based surfaces (like a baby gate?) but I can't get it to get ballpoint pen off the walls. I think ballpoint pens are worse than sharpies for cleaning up!

  3. Kate at the Small Things blog does tons and tons of great hair tutorials. I can't do my hair to save my life, and I've managed to get a few of her styles to stay.

For the sewing machine, open it up and pull out the owner's manual. My machine came with bobbins and needles, so I didn't have to buy those. If yours has them, you'll just need thread and a project.

  4. I want to get a sewing machine myself, and from what I learned in HomeEc didn't stay in my brain. I want to paint the kitchen cabinets in my boyfriend's house so bad. But that will probably be on hold for a while. I would look for a stroller at a yard sale, so that way you aren't paying so much. My mom got one that had barely been used and it was very lightweight. We've been watching "Breaking Bad". I got them for Christmas & Valentine's day from Trey. I wasn't so sure about it at first, but it is very interesting.

  5. I have an amazing primary care doctor! She's in Madison, though. And books weeks out. But you could try and get in there! (Dr. Moulder) And, I LOVE free podcasts!

  6. Have you thought of sewing class? Community colleges or parks & rec programs have them for cheap in the evenings usually. I took one once and thought it was well worth it. We started with learning to use the machine and then we were were making shirts by the end. We got homework assignments so it wasn't too much time away from family.

  7. Love that picture of Oliver! Thelma Lou (my black and white kitty) makes that same face. :) Podcasts also have me puzzled. I listen to a "podcast" that plays on YouTube...which doesn't make sense to me. Good luck with all your projects!
