Simple Christmas Simmer Pot Gifts

We love to give homemade gifts with our gifts to family and friends.  Olive's teacher gifts needed a little something extra so we decided to DIY some simmer pots for them.

We bought oranges, fresh cranberries and cinnamon sticks.  Easy!

I already had the glass jars and lids.

I recruited Olive to help me assemble them and to help me with the label.  It was fun and fast.  There are lots of simmer pot recipes online, but we ended up making up our own.

Ingredients:

2 cinnamon sticks per jar

3 orange peel slices per jar

3/4 c berries per jar

Directions:

Grab some clean jars, put in 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 large orange peels and all the cranberries you can pack into your jar and then 1 last orange peel on top.  Screw the lid on tight.  Add a bow and a note about how to use the simmer pot ingredients.  It's simple - pour all of the ingredients from the jar into a small saucepan.  Cover with water and let simmer on your stove.  We made one for our house and it smelled so festive.

This is what it looks like after simmering for several hours.  You can keep adding water to extend the life of your simmer pot.  This is a much safer and healthier option than candles!

Olive enjoyed picking out the fonts and helping me come up with the wording.

These would be so fun for teachers, neighbors, co-workers and friends this Christmas season!
