Change is Hard

I will be totally honest and vulnerable with you and say that the prospect of moving and relocating your family when you have older kids is hard.  Much harder than it was with babies.

Why?

Because they have their own big feelings, schools, friends, neighbors and routines.

When we moved from UT to AR or AR to MS or MS to IN - Olive was just along for the ride.  She was totally happy to be anywhere we were.  This time is different.  The kids don't really remember moving since we've been here for 6 years.  We're having lots of chats about moving, timelines and questions/concerns keep popping up amidst the excitement of a new house.  I'm thankful that the kids are young enough that they'll have plenty of time left in elementary school to build friendships.

The kids talk about their feelings about moving often and we talk through the highs and lows of moving together.  We've all shed tears at different points - excited tears, sad tears, really sad tears and nervous tears.  It's fun to talk about the new house wish lists and things they hope to do in our new space.  Olive's been making some late night lists of her own.

We know this is definitely the right move for our family, but

CHANGE IS HARD.  Even if it's a good change.

It just is.  So I'm coming to you today to tell you that we're hanging in there and are optimistic about the coming weeks settling into a new city.

It's been sad for me to say goodbye to all the things I've gotten plugged into.  Goodbye Room Mom for both kids.  Goodbye President of MACC Moms.  I'm going to miss those ladies like crazy!  Goodbye to Jordan Bakery Box in Terre Haute.  October was my busiest month yet so I'm sad to close up shop here.  I'm planning to restart once we get settled in Evansville so I'm optimistic about that.

We're a little stressed about all the details and doing our best to talk about things together.  Kevin's working hard to wrap up one job and get started on the  new one.  We're praying that everything for our move to come together, for the kid's new school to be wonderful, great teachers, nice new neighbors and for us to love our new city.

We worked on a Terre Haute To Do List over the weekend.  It includes all the fun things we are hoping to get to do before we move.  The kids helped and are excited to see what we can fit into the next few weeks.  We are also trying hard to make plans with our friends before we go.

1. Ivy Fit Ninja Gym

2. Culvers

3. Square Donuts

4. Treat for their teachers

5. Fowler Park

6. Eat at the country club

7. See our friends

8. Take Christmas card pictures

9. Hawthorn Park

10. Forest Park in Brazil

11. Movie night

12. Golf at the country club

13. Neighborhood walks

14. Dinner at JFords

15. Bonfire

16. Hot chocolate walk

We have a million not so fun to dos right now so it was very fun to make this list to balance that out!
