Highlights

This week has been a bit of an odd one for us.

My grandma passed away which was sad, but not unexpected.  It was nice to get to see lots of our family and have them meet Fletcher.  Both kids have summer colds right now so we've been taking it easy trying to get better.  No one is sleeping great thanks to the colds and July 4th weekend snuck up on me this year!  How is it already July??  Also, Kevin's birthday is on July 9th and I really haven't done much to prepare for that.  I need to get something fun planned ASAP.  We squeezed in some fun things and some more house projects, but it just kind of felt like a week where we were out of sorts a bit.  Ever have one of those??

The best parts of our week were:

BLOGGY BIRTHDAY
My blog turns 5 years old today!!  I started blogging when we lived in Salt Lake City and my family was in Indiana.  I wanted them to know what I was up to and share the fun things I was doing in my classroom.  My blog has grown and changed with me over the years.  I've always blogged about the things that were important to me, the things that I was currently doing and interested in and I think my blog archives reflect that.

This space has been a constant in my life when nothing else was.  It's seen me through days in the classroom teaching, major moves, living in the West, South and the Midwest, pre kids, with one kid and now with two.  Thanks for keeping up with me and staying interested in what I write about.  My family and friends still read my blog, but I have a whole new circle of bloggy friend readers that I never expected to make.  Who knew you could become such great friends with people you've never met in real life??  I am really thankful that you ALL read, comment and support my blog.  It means the world to me!!

I have LOVED blogging and it's become one of my favorite hobbies, me time activity and creative outlets.  I really enjoy writing and taking pictures to share with you and I'm SO thankful that people actually read what I write.  I am excited for the coming year and have some fun plans in the works. Happy Birthday dear Polka-Dotty Place!!

SALADS
I'm keeping on track with eating lots of salads and veggies this week.  My top salads were a Chicken Pesto Pasta Salad and I added hard boiled eggs to my salads all week long.  They were delicious and I'm headed to the store today to stock up on salad fixins for the coming week.  Cold pasta, grilled chicken and snap peas were my favorite ingredients this week.

REMEMBERING
My wedding ring still doesn't fit (remember it had to be cut off when I was pregnant around Christmas time??  ughhh) so I've been enjoying wearing different rings on my wedding ring finger.  Lately, I've been wearing one of my grandma's rings.  It's fun to have some of her things now that she's gone to wear and remember her by.  We both loved the color green so I'm excited to have a box of green dishes that were hers, some fun jewelry and other misc things.

HOUSE PROGRESS
We had originally hoped to be moved into our house sometime in June, but we opted to stay in our condo a little longer and keep working on projects.  It's nice to not have to live in the middle of chaos with kids and we'll get to move in to the house with more projects done.  We got to see my Dad again and none of these projects would be possible without his handy skills.  Kevin has spent HOURS cleaning and refinishing the original wood floors in our home.  It was a ton of hard work, but the floors look gorgeous now.  Our TV is mounted already thanks to some unexpected electrical work and yesterday we got new carpet installed.  Bye bye emerald green carpet :)

CUTE KID MOMENTS
Olive loves her baby dolls.  She was bargaining bed time with me and said it was impossible for her to go to bed because all of her babies were hungry.  We compromised and she got to feed one baby and then head to bed.  I'm loving her new haircut and pretty pleased with my hair cutting/sucker bribing skills :)
Fletcher is getting so big, so strong and so sweet.  His eyes are still the prettiest blue and I'm hoping they stay that way.  Kevin's eyes are blue so I think it would be fun for them to have that in common.  PS If you have a baby or are going to a baby shower anytime soon - buy this Fischer-Price Kick and Play Piano Gym!!  It's so cute and Fletcher loves to hang out here.  He swats at all the toys, squeals at his reflection in the mirror and plays beautiful music with his feet :)

I hope you have a really great weekend!!
Do you have any fun plans in the works??  We're going to spend time together as a family, start preparing things for our move and have plans to head to the country club for dinner and fireworks on the 4th.  Not sure if we'll make it until the fireworks with a toddler and an infant, but we're going to give it a try.

  3. So sorry about your grandmother but having her jewelry is so special and a great way to honor her memory. And I love those hardwoods! And the fact that your tv is already mounted--that took us hours to do after we moved into our home!

  4. I'm so sorry that you lost your grandma! I'll be praying for you and your family. <3 It's so sweet that you're able to use some of her belongings - I love having my grandmother's things to keep her memory alive.

Happy 5th Blogiversary! 5 years is an impressive accomplishment - especially for as many posts as you've cranked out of the years. I am SO glad we connected through blogging! Hopefully we can meet in IRL sooner than later. I've loved getting to know you and your family through your blog.

That green carpet reminds me of a church nursery LOL - I don't blame you for getting rid of it! :)

Hope your weekend is fun and restful!

  5. I'm sorry about your Grandma, Whitney. I'm glad that she knew your babies, and as they get older they will love knowing that they knew her too. I love her ring - that is a keepsake. You'll have to show us more of her things as you use them :)

Your house is looking soo pretty! We've refinished hardwood floors in 3 homes, so I know that is no easy task! So very worth it!

We still aren't sure what we are up to for the weekend. We've tossed around the idea of the beach, a baseball games, a movie marathon, we'll see what happens! Ha! For tonight, I know there is Red Robin in our future :D

    Happy birthday to your blog!

  11. So sorry to hear about your grandmother. It is nice that you are able to have some of her items, especially that ring because it is beautiful. Y'all are really making great house progress and your daddy is amazing with all his handy skills. We are going to have a family cookout on Sunday and hopefully catch a fireworks show. Monday will be spent just resting and playing outside (if it doesn't rain). I hope y'all have a wonderful 4th!
