Hot Springs FOOD

It's usually my job to research the best food in the area when we travel but my husband took over this job for our trip to Hot Springs.  He found 3 fun restaurants for us to try.  They were all yummy so I'd recommend them if you are ever heading to Hot Springs.

The Whippet
(about 45 minutes south of Little Rock in Prattsville)
Kevin's boss took him here for lunch one day and he wanted to bring us back.
He ordered fried catfish and it came with a TON of sides.
coleslaw, PICKLED tomatoes, beans, hush puppies and onions
I love tomatoes but the cold, pickled tomatoes weren't for me.
However the hush puppies and beans were delish!

Olive was jealous of our meal :)
The decor is very hometown and they have the vintage high school photos from the high school in Prattsville all around the restaurant.  We loved looking at the popular hair styles and the interesting trend of naming girls boy names.  It seemed like the whole town was there for dinner and everyone was really friendly.
We were stuffed from dinner so we had to turn down the offering of  "Paaaaahhhhhh" or pie as it's known in other parts of the country :)

The Colonial
downtown Hot Springs
Voted Best Breakfast by Southern Living in 2011
We heard the wait can be long so we went for brunch hoping to avoid the crowds.  It worked out perfectly because we barely had to wait and go to enjoy sitting outside and admiring the old buildings downtown.
Kevin was pondering his options :)
 Omelet and biscuits for me
Pancakes, sausage and eggs for Kevin
The staff was so friendly and the inside of the restaurant looks like you're in a log cabin.  It was a darling breakfast spot that did not disappoint.

Reese's for me and Red Velvet for Kevin
A yummy treat that we took to go :)

Bath Houses at Hot Springs

While we were in Hot Springs,
we had to stroll along the Grand Promenade to see the bath houses.
I never realized that Hot Springs was quite the tourist attraction,
health spa, healing mecca in its hay day of the early 1900s.

We toured each of the bath houses.

We toured the Fordyce Bath House and enjoyed stepping back in time.
We watched a video, learned more about the town
and then Olive woke up for the tour.
Everything was so fancy and it was fun to picture what it would have been like
to go to the spas back in their prime.

Beautiful stained glass.
 Lots to see :)
These steamer compartments seemed less than spa like to me.
I was in tile heaven admiring all of the tile work.

Each bath house had its own, unique architecture.

You could bottle water from the fountains to take home with you :)

We strolled around downtown and admired the buildings/store fronts.
Rock walls in the middle of town were the norm.

We made a pit stop in this little water shop to try some fresh spring water.

We enjoyed our day and did not have any Bill Clinton sightings.

The weather was dreamy
and Olive was dreamier.

Happy Friday!!

The HIGHLIGHTS of my week were:

1. We tried out David's Burgers for our date night this week and it was delicious!!  The burger was so tasty, cooked perfectly and who wouldn't love unlimited lemonade and fries.  I'm happy to report that I only refilled my lemonade :)

2. I managed to get 2 haircuts this week.  One that was hideous and one that I LOVE.
Let's just call this hair-ma-geddon 2014!
You can read about the whole hairy ordeal here.

3. I made a candy wreath for a friend this week and sent her a little February care package.  I loved the way it turned out!!  Go here for my tutorial.

4. We got some ice this week and no snow.  We had nowhere to be so we just got to stay home and enjoy the frosty view.  We were thankful to never lose power.  I'm also thankful that my husband is back from a bit of traveling this week.  I was worried he'd get stuck in Ohio with all of the snow but he got out just in time.

 5. I made working out a priority this week, didn't let myself make excuses to avoid it and exercised every day!!  I have found that I'm happier, more pleasant and in a better mood if I make time to exercise even for 30 minutes.  Olive went on a nap strike for a few days this week so I had her join in.  I'm sure Jillian Michaels would be proud of our team work.

Weekly Finish This:
I will never outgrow...
loving to eat mac & cheese and fruit snacks.
I will splurge on...
Kate Spade.
My {lack of} passport represents...
the fact that I've spent a lot of time traveling in the US rather than outside the US.
My most ridiculous fear is...
being in {another} car accident
or a close second is turbulence = plane crash

My favorite thing to give is...
baked goods and handwritten cards.

Hope you have a great weekend!!!
Thanks for stopping by.
