Simple Fall Break

Olive just wrapped up a four day weekend for her Fall Break.  We had the best time together!

Kevin's break was different than Olive's so we knew we'd be staying home.  That wasn't a problem because we really do love where we live.  She requested all of her favorite things around town for Fall Break.  She said she missed all of her favorite spots now that she's in school all day.

It was simple.

It was sweet.

We all enjoyed the break from our usual routine.  It made me realize that we've really missed her being a part of our daily routine now that she's in kindergarten this year.  Fletcher loved having her around most of the time and it was fun to hang out with her.  She seems like such a big girl all of the sudden.  She's trying new foods, learning new words, learning to read and sound out words, and is just sweet to be around her.

We made 2 apple pies.  And I do mean WE.  Both kids helped.  It was messy and took twice as long as usual, but it was probably the best apple pie I've ever made.  Olive was strong enough this year to do run the apple corer/peeler/slicer so that was really fun.  They loved helping.  There's probably a life lesson in there.. slow down and enjoy the process and the results will be wonderful??

We met friends at our favorite breakfast spot - McDonalds :)

We bounced at our local bounce house.

I fixed fun meals for lunches and snacks.  These ice cube tray meals were a hit!

We went to several homecoming festivities!

We tried new restaurants.  And wrote thank yous while we were there because the food was so delicious.  Olive tried a couple new things and loved them.  She's always been a pretty good eater, but she's seeking out new foods to try almost every day.

We went to church.  We also broke out the sweatshirts, cardigans and heavy coats.  Fall seems to have officially arrived in Indiana.

We played outside.

We rested.  That's not my specialty so it was really fun to relax, enjoy the snuggles, stay home and have several simple days in a row.

Donuts at our favorite spot.

Our museum has added several fun new exhibits lately.  Olive hadn't been to the museums in a long time so this was top of her to do list.  We spent several hours there yesterday.  It was tons of fun!  Fletcher was braver and did more things with Olive's help.  They both had missed playing here together.

This long weekend was a good reminder...

In a world where BUSY seems to be the norm,
Sometimes the simple things end up being the best things.

  1. Once the kids start school, it becomes so nice to have some downtime at home. For a few years, we scheduled a vacation over our Christmas break. But we all decided we really like the cozy time at home over the break instead. It looks like y'all had a fun time just enjoying some days at home. The apple pie looks delicious...recipe please! :)
