Ouch!!

Well, my week has not gone as planned.  No highlights post to share with you today even though we had a pretty fun start to our week.

I was trying to hurry through my afternoon to do list on Wednesday and I tripped on my kitchen barstool/island.  I could tell immediately something was WRONG with my pinky toe.  Called Kevin.  He zoomed home in record speed and rushed me to the ER.  He dropped me off at the door and stayed with the kids.

My doctor walked in and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a mom from Olive's class.  I didn't realize she was a doctor in the ER so I was thrilled.  Then the nurse came in and was confirming my emergency contact info.  It's Kevin and she said, "Is Dr. Jordan your husband?"  I said yes and she told me that he was her favorite professor at ISU.  We have moved around a lot so these little moments that make our city feel like home made me so happy.  I got shots, xrays and not a good assessment: broken, dislocated pinky toe, boot, crutches and an appointment first thing the next morning with a podiatrist to talk about surgery to fix my toe.

My hope for a fairly quick fix in the ER was not going to be happening.  I had to go home with a mangled foot.  The initial look made them think I'd require a pin in my toe because of the location of the break.  I went home in pain and tried to rest.  I also cried a couple times while I threw pity parties for myself.

After a podiatrist visit yesterday and I'm very happy to report that I don't need surgery!  They numbed my toe again (those two shots were SO PAINFUL each time), redid the xrays, put the toe back in place and sent me home.  I'm in a boot and bandage for basically the month of May.  A boot never looked so good!  I was for sure I'd need surgery and am so thankful for the prayers and well wishes from family and friends this week.  I have to go back at the end of the month to redo my xrays to confirm everything is healing correctly.

So all of our fun plans - fire truck festival, birthday parties, overnight trip with my girl friends and yard work - are all cancelled in the name of REST.  I'm bummed, but will be totally fine.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

  7. Oh friend. I am really am so sorry so many fun, special plans have had to be cancelled in place of you taking the time to rest....but maybe God is giving you a little nudge to just slow down and enjoy the month of May at a slower pace ;) SO thankful no surgery is needed and I love that you were connected with a familiar doctor and nurse when you went to the ER...you are right- it is so comforting to feel connections with others in your town when a lot of the time you can feel quite anonymous! Sending lots of love to you friend!!

  9. Oh what an adventure. I'm glad you don't have to have surgery! I injured my ankle over spring break and though I waited way to long to go to the doctor, rest was what I need most. I hope you're able to have some fun in your rest though I know it will mess up plans.
