Make Your Own Snow Globes

Happy Friday!! I hope you had a great week.  We packed in tons of Christmas fun as we got back in the swing of things from Thanksgiving break.  We listened to Christmas music, watched Christmas movies, decorated our house and made some Christmas plans.  We are so excited for all the fun that December holds.  I did a little Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping, but mostly avoided the abundance of gift guides and affiliate links that were flooding my social media.  I appreciate good deals, but definitely don't need to be shopping 24/7.

I've been wanting to try to make our own snow globes for years.

I've pinned instructions, ideas and decided this year was the year to do it.

My sister had some extra mason jars and I grabbed the rest of the supplies at WalMart for around $10.  It was such an easy project.  My 4 year old helped and my kids love playing with them.  She told me the other day... Mom I could look at these for HOURS!  They really did turn out pretty.  Ours have been played with for days, dropped on the floor and been played with a ton.  They still look great.

SUPPLIES for 4 snow globes
warm water to fill each jar
glitter
tall, skinny ornament or object for each jar
(The mini village section at Walmart had some really cute figures for under $2)
clear glue
hot glue
hot glue gun
twine

I used this Shutterfly tutorial for my inspiration so go watch their video

We did this project during nap time and it worked out great.  It's quick!

Wipe out the jars.

Hot glue the ornaments onto the lids.

Beware the lids are SHARP.

Let them cool.

Fill the jars with warm water.

Pour in about 2 oz of clear glue per jar.

Stir immediately until well mixed.

Add about 2 t glitter per jar.  We mixed clear glitter and silver glitter.

Stir again.

Add ornament lids.

Twist on the lids.

Shake up.

Add twin bow.

I didn't add any glue to seal the lids.  Just twisted them closed really well.

Helpful Hints:
Don't put jingle bells in the water - it'll turn the water yellow
Don't pick wide ornaments - they won't fit
The jar lids are very sharp so handle them with care.  Not a great thing for kids to do.

Olive couldn't wait to show these to Fletcher when he woke up!

Happy DIYing!!  Your family would love these!!  I think kids and adults would love decorating with these for the holidays.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!  We are looking forward to several fun holiday gatherings.
