Did you live along the path of the eclipse??
Doing Meta Moon PRIME drink cheers watching the eclipse unfold.
The next few photos were taken just a few minutes apart. The sky changed so fast!!
People have been promoting it locally for over a year and I wasn't sure what all of the hype was about. We were prepared to participate, but skeptial that it would be that cool. I'm happy to say that it really was one of the coolest things we have ever gotten to experience!!
We gave out eclipse themed treat bags to our friends and cousins at the boy's birthday parties and then we ate an eclipse themed treat board at home.
We got glasses from school, the library and work and it was really fun to keep tabs on the solar eclipse progress for about an hour or so from our backyard. It was a really warm day with blue skies. The weather was pretty perfect and I'm so glad we all got to enjoy this together at home. It was cloudy for our last eclipse experience and I think the kids will always remember our fun eclipse day.
We headed outside about an hour before the total eclipse to watch the whole thing unfold.
The kids had a blast watching all kinds of planes and jets fly by. We live near an airport so there was lots of extra flight traffic coming through. Then when the total eclipse was set to happen around 2:00pm we paid extra close attention. None of us were prepared for the total darkness. The way the crickets would start chirping thinking it was night time and the way the birds would chirp thinking it was sunrise. It got cold with the sun comletely gone and it felt like the middle of the night. It was WILD. Leo was scared for a few seconds, but we convinced him the sun was hiding and that this was so cool.
We gave the whole experience at 10/10 and now realize what all the hype was about! I'm glad we got glasses, fun snacks and had the day together at home to enjoy it as a family. A lot of local businesses, schools and universities closed or went virtual for the day in anticipation for tons of extra traffic in our city. Good call! We loved being home for the total eclipse!
What a day!! We will remember and talk about the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse for years to come.
So cool! It didn't get completely dark here but it did get like dusk.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! I loved your snack board!
ReplyDeleteWe were in the path of totality too!! It was INCREDIBLE!!!! I agree with all your thoughts-- I was looking forward to seeing it with the kids and my hubby (he was working from home) but none of us were prepared for how amazing it was. Such a great experience and a reminder of God's power and mystery! I love all your themed snacks!!
ReplyDeleteI remember there being a solar eclipse when I was in grade school but I'm guessing it wasn't total because I do not remember the darkness at that time at recess when we all got to see it at school!
