She imitates Daniel Tiger, sings his songs and has now begun to apply his songs to her real life situations. That transfer of learning is amazing! She takes to heart the lessons that she sees on TV and is better off for them. I loved the article that I read recently about the kids who watch Daniel Tiger learn a variety of social skills that are great for a developing child. Fascinating read promoting Daniel Tiger.
Here are the catchy tunes I've caught Olive singing when Daniel Tiger is no where to be seen:
1. You've got to try new things 'cause they might taste good.
This one comes up at meal time
2. Try try try try it again
She uses this one a lot when she's trying to build or making things.
3. Grown ups come back
We talk about this one when she's getting dropped off somewhere.
4. Thank you for everything you do
She sings things as her thank you regularly.
5. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
As we're walking through our neighborhood she'll sing thing.
6. Close your eyes and think of something happy.
She says things when she's scared and the other day she told me she thinks of me when she closes her eyes because I'm her something happy :) Made my day!
7. Stop and listen to stay safe
We were waiting for our walk signal when we were downtown one day and she sings me this tune.
8. If you have to go potty stop and go right away
She still sings this regularly when she has to go to the bathroom.
9. When you're sick rest is best
Anytime someone is sick
10. Take care of you makes me happy, too
Anytime she's helping take care of me or her little brother
11. When you get hurt find a grown up to help you feel better
She sings things anytime she gets hurt
12. There are so many feelings for you to feel.
This comes up anytime big feelings come up.
(And she sings all of these tunes in the right situations!!)
It really is amazing how many things she's learned from Daniel Tiger's show. The lessons Daniel and friends teach really stick with the kids. We have lots of conversations after the shows processing the information together. I really love their episodes on adding a new baby to the family, sharing, potty training, getting sick, school, taking turns, making friends, etc. The episodes are super relatable for preschoolers and they are packed with good information. We've been watching the school episodes and talking about going to school in the Fall.
Do your kids watch Daniel Tiger?

Grown ups come back is how we made the transition for preschool. Connor wasn't ever really scared to go to school but this helped ease the bit of worry he had. Daniel Tiger is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE Daniel Tiger in our house. Okay Emmy loves it. The rest of us like it. It's such a great learning show. We sing the songs a lot as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderful. I also grew up with mr rogers and he holds a special place in my heart. My father passed away when I was 4, and I really think he helped me get through it. I'm so glad Daniel Tiger has similar messages!
ReplyDeleteDaniel Tiger IS a great teacher. So thankful that my girls just barely got in on some of those lessons. We still sing the one about "You've got to try a new food cause it might taste go-od!
ReplyDeleteWe love Daniel Tiger in our house too! One song that has been really helpful is "you can take a turn, and then I'll get it back." We have sharing issues over here, and I think Daniel Tiger has helped a bit with that. My son will also start singing the songs and applying lessons from the show to life. It's pretty amazing!
ReplyDeleteI know I can't say much since I am not a parent, but I do believe what kids watch on TV shapes them. So why not shower them with entertaining, educational shows? From what I read, it sounds like Daniel Tiger is a good foundation. I hope when I do have children, I choose something that will help develop their character & learning. I remember watching Mr. Roger's, but it is a distant memory.
ReplyDeleteDaniel Toger is so sweet! Fred (?) Rogers would be so proud of that show, I think. I loved reading Olive's real life applications!
ReplyDeleteOlive is so cute in her pretty dress. Love all her fun stuffed animals. My daughter would love Daniel the tiger. =)
ReplyDeleteWe just love that show!
ReplyDeleteWe absolutely love Daniel Tiger in this house! Mabel usually just refers to it as "grr" though lol.
ReplyDeleteWe love Daniel too! One of our favorites lately is, "When you feel so mad that you want to roar, take a deep breath and count to four." 😂 My son also likes watching Stinky & Dirty on Amazon Prime, which is great at promoting scientific thought and problem solving skills.
ReplyDeleteAlso, have you seen the episode "The Tiger Family Trip"? My kids are obsessed with this epi specifically for some reason and I like how they work a lot of the songs/lessons into the whole half hour rather than just focusing on one.
DeleteDaniel Tiger, Peg + Cat, Wild Kratts...
ReplyDeletewe LOVE Daniel Tiger!! It helps me with my parenting too - like what to have my son do when he's frustrated, upset, etc :) Such a great show!!!
