T-Shirt Book Report

Who needs to do a boring book report when you can do a
T-SHIRT BOOK REPORT?!?!

I found the idea here and made the project my own.
Here was the assignment that I sent home with the kids and
I gave them a month to do the project.
I think this project would work for any grade level and could easily be done with any book.  You could assign a genre, an author or a book page length to guide your students.  I told my kids they had to read a novel but then let them choose something they were really interested in reading about.  I assigned this to be a mostly at home project but it could easily be adapted to be done at school.  Just consider your population and do what works best for your students!

Here were the end results:

My 3rd graders LOVED this project!  They were thrilled to read a book of their choosing and so proud of their hard work.  They were dying to wear their shirts to school and we even inspired another class to do t-shirt book reports!!  Yay for reading!!

Hospital Bag Must Haves?

I've consulted friends, family and some lists on Pinterest to compile must haves for me/my baby when we go to the hospital.  Some people say bring very little, some people have reasonable lists and some suggest bringing enough stuff to fill a U-haul.  I'd like to find a happy medium so that I'm comfortable and not feeling like I'm roughing it.

Here's what I have packed right now
for ME:
1. Travel size toiletries of my usual products.
2. Make-up wipes and my usual make up
3. Hair Straightener
4. pjs/comfy lounge wear
5. Light robe
6. Flip flops
7. Socks
8. Nursing tank, bra, creams, pads and such
9. Camera, video camera and battery charger
10. charging cords, extension cord
11. contacts/glasses
12. mints/gum
13. hand sanitizer/yummy smelling hand soap
14. Granny panties in case the hospital ones won't do
15. I'll grab my iPhone, my purse and the rest of my pile when the time comes.
16. An empty bag or two to put any gifts/hospital extras they send us home with.

 for OLIVE:
1. Baby sleeper(s)
2. Headbands
3. Pacis - a few different ones
4. A blanket or two
5. Little hat
6.  Boppy

for Dad:
1. Snacks
2. Cash for vending machines
3. Phone/charger
4. We are going to share all the toiletries and necessities.
*We live less than 15 minutes from the hospital so he's planning to go home to shower and isn't going to bring  a lot of extras.  That way he can still take care of the cats, get anything that he/we need and not have to have a ton of things to haul around.

Did I forget anything?  Is there anything else that you'd suggest.
PLEASE let me know so that I'm ready to go when the time comes.

Decorating for Baby

I'm feeling like Olive will be arriving sooner rather than later
so I thought I should decorate for her.

The cats were thrilled with the new decorations :)

We are wondering who Olive will look like...
Her dad or her mom?!?!

PhD Milestone

CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS
to my hubby!!!
He's one BIG step closer to getting his PhD.
On Friday, he finished collecting his last bit of data for his dissertation.  He's been working on this portion of his dissertation for a long time and was hoping to get it all collected by the time we had to move this July.  So with the help of several research assistants, many undergrads and his mentor, he's DONE!!  He did it!!  Now he has to compile all of his data and start writing his dissertation.  I'm so excited for him!!  We've had fun celebrating this weekend with friends.

The big items left on his PhD journey are:
Write his dissertation
Defend his dissertation
Complete his one year internship
Graduate May 2014!!
