Trend or Trash: Leather

Are you noticing leather details popping up here and there this season?  I'm seeing leather or pleather pants, skirts, dresses and tons of jackets.
via shopbop

Whitney says...
I could get on board with a long leather pencil skirt or a cute moto jacket, but you'll likely see me incorporating this trend with a leather shirt collar or leather elbow patches.  I don't feel like it's my style to sport leather pants or pants with leather details and leather jewelry seems a bit too masculine for me.  I also plan to fully embrace leather booties and ankle boots.

What do you think of the leather look this season??

Trend or Trash: Light Denim

I'm seeing more and more light denim making appearances in the stores.
It seems to be everywhere for fall.  What do you think - trend or trash??

Gap 1969 Patch Back Denim Jacket

Whitney Says...
I am a fan.  I love the light denim and just bought a light denim jacket from GAP for Fall.  I don't think I'll be wearing this trend in jeans since I typically wear dark wash jeans.  I will probably stick to light chambray shirts and my jacket.  I'd love to pair it with a great, plaid scarf or plaid button down shirt for Fall.

Light Denim Inspired Looks that I'd like to replicate:
Wearing fitted pieces in different washes (like Cameron's light jacket and indigo Earnest Sewn jeans) is the key to pulling off the tricky combo seen on the star. And adding cool accessories – like a tomato-red bag, Brian Atwood sandals and modified cat-eye frames

Lacey has a really fantastic summer in the city look. Love the dressed down boat stripe shirt under the denim jacket. Then to make this city-jungle appropriate, the masses of gold jewelry and giant cocktail ring are perfect. Even really digging the tortoiseshell sunglasses.

Trend or Trash: Kimono

Have you spotted kimonos in the stores this season??
I've been seeing them all over blog land and in the stores.
They seem to be the summer cardigan of 2014.

What do you think?
Summer trend or trash??

hitting the kimono trend out of the park!!!

Whitney Says:
I am a big fan of this flowy kimono trend.  I like the idea of florals and patterns in very light layers and the fringe is fun, too.  It seems to be a trend that would look great on all body types.  I have tried on several kiminos at TJ Maxx and they were all very awkwardly cut.  I tried on all sizes from small to XL but none of them were a flattering fit - too short, too boxy, etc.  I think a good kimono needs to be a little longish to help achieve the flowy look.  I will be on the hunt for a great kimono this season and will probably check out stores like F21 or Charlotte Russe to see if I can find an affordable option.  I do not want to make this an investment piece in my summer wardrobe, but I think it would be fun to find one for under $20 to change things up a bit.  Let me know if you've spotted any great ones.

Trend or Trash: Crop???

I'm seeing CROP TOPS in almost every store this season.  They seem to be solid, patterned, floral and lacey.  There are so many varieties and lots of options
but
is this a good Summer trend or a trash idea??

Whitney says:
I appreciate that some ladies have lovely, toned abs that they are dying to show off, but I do not want to see them.  I think that crop tops are best left out of people's wardrobes this season (and forever).  Maybe it's because I'm in my 30s, or maybe because I'm a mom, but I prefer to be more covered up and am not really a fan of showing your stomach off in your every day outfits.  It seems awkward to me to be wearing a dressy outfit and have your stomach showing.  Save crop tops for swim suit cover ups or layer them with a tank underneath.

Trend or Trash: Midi Skirt

I'm seeing a lot of mid-length skirts popping up on blogs and in magazines this Spring.
Are you a fan??
Do you own any midi skirts??

Whitney says:
I'd love to give them a try this season!  I like the mid-length and think this style can be done really well.  I'd love to see a high waisted version, with a blouse tucked in and maybe a nice floral pattern.  I'll definitely be on the lookout for a midi skirt or two this season!
