Baby Shower for Eleanor

The baby shower was a success!!

 

First, let me say that I wasn't able to attend because

as you know Utah and Indiana are NOT CLOSE to each other.

So Jacque filled in for me!!

Baby Shower in a Box

My last several posts have been about my SIL's baby shower.

My contributions had to be mailable.

 I found some cute thank yous to match our color theme.

We are going to have everyone write out their address on an envelope

so that the expectant mommy will have one less thing to do.

 I found this cute owl plate and cup at Target

for the big sister to be:

 Got a little something to add to our big gift.

 I was also in charge of making banners:

I used sticker letters, scrapbook paper and glue sticks to make them.

I made banners that said:

"It's a Girl!"

"Gifts"

"Eleanor Rose"

They each went into their own baggie, with a paper clip for each letter and green yard.

 Luckily my box got there in plenty of time.

My next job was the games and activities.

I found these Wishes for Baby printable cards

  that were adorable.

I Googled Wishes for baby cards,

looked at the images,

found a few that I liked,

printed to see if I still liked them

and then went with these.

 I printed them on some raspberry card stock.

There will be one card at each place setting.

I did mine in advance and sent it with the others.

 I was looking around on-line and wanted to find a baby game to play

that I'd never done before.

Price is Right for Babies was the winner.

I found some printable ones but they weren't great

so I made my own with the help of Target.com

 Hope these turn out to be fun!

My mom bought potted pink plants (say that 5 times fast!) for centerpieces

and for prizes for the games.

Good idea mom!

Baby Shower Invitations

My brother and SIL in having a baby girl in July.

My mom, sister and I are hosting a shower for her TODAY!

We all took on certain jobs to make it all work

and my jobs were things that could be done from 1,500 miles away.

My first job was to take care of the invitations.

My brother and SIL chose the bedding for little Eleanor

and thus our theme for the shower was born.

I searched etsy first because I love supporting small businesses

and there are some amazing things to be bought!

I'd highly recommend you purchasing from this store

because she responds to e-mails right away, she had my entire order done in 48 hours,

I was thrilled with how easy they were to print and the vibrant colors,

she had 4x6 or 5x7 size options for the invitations,

it cost $13 for her to personalize it, e-mail it and then I made the prints.

 

 I personalized it to match our event and got several compliments on it.

I uploaded the image to Snapfish, printed them to Wal-Mart,

picked them up, *went back, picked them up again, 

and paid a very affordable $0.19 per invitation.

*I approved the set of invitations when I picked them up by looking at the top copy.

Mistake.

When I got them home, all of the ones underneath were smeary

and had ink smudged on the front and back.

So I went back to Wal-Mart and said they needed to reprint them for me.

They did without any argument and I was very pleased.

Lesson learned: Look through the whole stack before approving next time.

I also did some research and found out that Wal-Mart sells

invitations envelopes for 4x6 prints for $4.99/box.

Perfect!!

I used my address stamp and used a coordinating ink color.

I addressed them with a bright pink marker

in an oversized, handwritten font.

Instead of RSVP, I opted for Regrets only.

I only heard from a few people so I'm hoping our count is close to accurate.

My mom and sis get the majority of the credit for this event

because they were the ones who made it happen!!

High Five for Friday

I'm thrilled that Friday has finally arrived.

Summer can't come soon enough for this girl.

Here's what I've been up to this week:

1. Making TONS of sugar cookies

These were for a going away party for some of Kevin's classmates at the U

Kevin said the icing was my best yet... too bad I have no idea why.

 2. I got a cute care package in the mail straight from IN.

3. I actually remembered to put dinner in the crock pot the night before 

so I didn't' have to cook when I got home from work.

4. First Jamba Juice date of the season

5.  One of my 2nd grade girls came up to my desk and we had this conversation:

Hi Mrs. Jordan!  

Do you have your camera at school right now?

Yes, I always have it in my purse.

I need to borrow it.

Why?

I would like to take your picture because you look so pretty today!

2nd graders really are adorable.

Post Office Week

It is a tradition at my school for us to participate in

POST OFFICE WEEK.

Kids are encouraged to write letters to other students,

parents, grandparents and other family members

are encouraged to write to children.

Then the PTA and student council collect,

sort and deliver mail to our classroom each day.

The PTA also ensures that everyone gets at least one item in the mail each day.

They have the mayor, our principal, room moms, teachers, 

and the Utah Jazz mascot write to the kids.

The kids love it 

and it's a fun way to promote writing at the end of the school year.

We spend a whole week writing letters and waiting for letters in response.

My back table is our stationery center.

As you can see, writing is messy!

My family/friends are kind enough to write to my class.

Here are some of the fun things that we got this year:

 My mom thought my 2nd & 3rd graders would enjoy seeing 

ME as a 2nd and 3rd grader along with some fun treats.

 I started accessorizing when I was young!

Clocks for Kids

Once again, I was inspired by Pinterest to do a project:

Make your own clocks:

We are reviewing for our end of year testing so this was a fun way to review time.

You'll need 2-3 paper plates per child.  It'll be less than $3 at Wal-mart

1 brad

1/2 an index card for the hands of the clock

2 different colored makers

Write the 12, 6, 3 and 9 on first.

Then fill in the in between numbers.

Add the vocabulary words in the middle.

Cut through the lined part of the plate in between each number.

It should be 12 cuts around the plate.

Cut the half of an index card into two skinny strips.

Write minute on one and hour on the other.

Trim the hour hand down and cut points into both hands.

 Poke the brad through the hands of the clock

Put the plates on top of each other and put the brad through both plates.

Lift up each flap and write the minute amount under each number.

I reviewed times with the whole group and then put the kids with a partner.

They asked each other to make times, to read the time, etc.

They loved it!

This was a fun way to review time and it would be a great way to teach time!
