Are You Good at Hurting People's Feelings?

People pride themselves on the things they are good at doing.
They draw attention to those areas of their life and want people to focus on them.
They want awards, recognition, raises and praise for them.

People tend NOT to focus on the negative aspects of their personality.
They ignore the less than flattering things they do
and often fail to consider how their actions impact others.

Some people are really
GOOD AT HURTING FEELINGS.
Not a flattering attribute and
Not something you'd want said about YOU.

Are you snippy to your spouse?
Do you have a bad attitude?
Do you roll your eyes when you think others aren't looking?
Do you make faces?
Are you a professional at making things difficult on others?
Do you gossip?
Do you ignore birthdays?
Do you check out and get lost playing on your phone?
Do you avoid interacting with others?
Do you have one sided conversations?
Do you turn down invitations to do things?
Do you watch TV instead of visiting?
Do you ignore texts, phone messages or emails?
Do you disregard nice gestures?
Do you fail to make eye contact?
Do you find yourself often being angry?
Do you pay attention to your tone of voice?
Do you think about the words that come out of your mouth BEFORE you say them?
Do you complain within earshot?
Do you demand things go your way?
Do you act appreciative?
Do you let your bad attitude dictate your behavior?
Do you speak unkindly to those you love?
Do you smile?
Do you only think of yourself?
Do you ever think about how your actions impact others?

What  simple changes can you make in your day to day routine that would benefit everyone you interact with?  Start with just a few, very doable things and see how your relationships improve right away.

There are LOTS and LOTS of people around you that could really use some love and kindness.  Your friends, family, coworkers, kids and neighbors would ALL benefit from you starting to think about how you can serve the people around you.  Take responsibility for your behavior and aim to be kind to those around you.

I challenge you to start thinking about
OTHER PEOPLE
(if you don't already :)
and how your actions impact them.
Try hard to be encouraging to others,
to smile and to love the people you interact with.
Make a conscious effort to be pleasant and positive.

Life is short.
Be kind.

Hooray for Friday!

It's been a rainy, busy, birthday filled week at my house.
The best parts were...

1. We celebrated Olive's FIRST birthday with family and friends all week long.  We traveled to Indiana for a visit and couldn't have had a better time.  Olive loved being surrounded by her family and we loved making memories together.  The party turned out just like I'd hoped - tune back in next week for a full recap!

 2. I got this minty lace top from The Limited and I LOVE IT!  It's unique, has tons of adorable details (the back is polka-dotted) and it was on sale!!  It was definitely be on repeat all summer long.

3. My DIY projects for the party were really fun!  Makes me want to take a closer look at my overflowing Pinterest boards and start on some summer DIYs.  I'll be posting about them next week.

 4. I've been looking for a child sized back pack for Olive and hadn't had much luck.  My sister found this cat backpack and gave it to Olive for her birthday.  It's even cuter in person (if that's possible) and I can't wait to pack it for her!!
 Silver mouse zipper pulls!?!?!

5. We went on a date night stroll through Whole Foods this week.  We usually don't shop there, but we were looking to find a good deal on some organic food items.  We strolled around the store and had the best time!!  The employees were really helpful and friendly.  We came home with sourdough bread, fancy cheeses, all the ingredients for bruschetta and some of the tastiest food we've had all season.  We won't be doing all of our grocery shopping there - unless we win the lottery - but we will be going back for specialty items and to check out their sales regularly.  Olive thought the entire store was very entertaining.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!  I'm hoping my weekend includes dinner date night, hanging out with friends, late night Sonic milkshake run and relaxing.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Olive at 10/11 Months

Dear Olive,
You are acting more and more like a big girl and less like a baby each day.  You are learning new "tricks" and always outsmarting us.  You are into e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.  You are so curious and smart.  We are constantly impressed with how quickly you learn things - clapping, waving, saying hello, opening all cabinet doors, clearing book shelves, and playing with your toys.  We affectionately call you our baby tornado because you leave a path of destruction wherever you go :)

You've turned into quite the snuggly baby.
In part due to teething and in part because I think you just like to cuddle.

Car trips have gotten a little trickier now that you are mobile and stay awake while we drive.  You require lots of toys, snacks and attention to keep you happy in the car.  We also upgraded your car seat to a convertible one and I think you appreciate having room to spread out.

You love to chew on car keys and cheerios.  We find cheerios all over the house and I'm constantly cleaning up your little trail of crunchy treats.  We find you lounging around more and more.  You also still love to take baths.

You cut your four top teeth all at once and it was a pitiful sight to see.
We stayed home in our pjs for several days to take it easy.

You have SO much to say!  You wake up talking and babble all day long.  You seem to speak in baby sentences and talk with your hands.  I pause in your conversation and seem to be wanting a response. I only wish I could speak baby :)  You say mama, mommy, dada, no, hi, hello.  You pick up my phone and say hi which is an adorable little trick.

Your hair has hit a bit of a growth spurt.  You seem to sprout more and more each night when you sleep.  You actually woke up with a bit of bed head and it was adorable.  Your dad and I always talk about your new hair - what color will it be?  will you have cowlicks like you dad?  will your hair curl like mine?  We will be anxiously taking note of your hair growth in the coming months.

You are BUSY!
Walking along the furniture.
Standing up on your own.
Playing under the table.
Watching out the windows.
Chasing the cats.
Following us everywhere like our little shadow.

The funniest things for you are:
sneezing
coughing
peek a boo
bubble blowing
silly sounds

Our "easy bake oven" is very interesting to you.  You get on your very tippy toes to try to reach the nobs and handles.  You also love to be in the kitchen when I'm cooking.

You master the funniest things... like turning the printer on and off.  You are so proud of yourself and I'm amazed that you know how to do it.

You are not a fan of:
being told NO
not getting your way
eating meats
getting a baby mani/pedi
wearing hats or sunglasses
having your food put on a plate - you'd rather eat off the table

We are so thankful for you and love seeing your personality shine through more and more as each month goes by!!  We sure do love you!!
