Spelling Hang Ups

I'm a pretty good speller.  I remember having to study for spelling tests when I was younger and that I wasn't the winning the Spelling Bee type of gal.  I learned the rules of phonics and have been teaching them to my students for years.  I try to proof read everything I write and spell check things to the max.
However, there are some words that a.l.w.a.y.s. give me trouble.
Like I have to pause, try to remember a little trick about the word or type it into a Word document to confirm that I spelled the word correctly.

My list of troublesome words:

I should probably make myself a missed spelling word list word wall, study them, write them and practice writing them until I learn them with a 100% certainty but it's not that high on my priority list.

Are there any words that you avoid writing because you have a hard time remembering how to spell them??  Please tell me I'm not the only one :)

  1. I can relate to your list! To double up some letters or not? I do avoid "recommend" because I make a mess of it. I had trouble with Michael too but it's one of my kids' middle name! I just remember the AE order is alphabetical. Not on your list for me is "restaurant". I finally just memorized it because I was tired of trying to sound it out and still messing it up.

I LOVE hearing from you!! Thanks for taking the time to leave sweet comments; I enjoy reading every one of them.
